Women Run 5K at 8 a.m., Men Run 4-Miles at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country team looks to build on its performances as the Lions head to Thibodaux to take part in the Nicholls Invitational on Saturday morning at the Nicholls Farm.

The day kicks off with the Lady Lions running a five-kilometer course at 8:00 a.m. while the men follow at 8:30 a.m. and will run a four-mile-long course. A link to the live timing for both races will be available on LionSports.net.

Southeastern's women's team will look to improve on their times from their last race at the LSU Invitational, which was also a 5K course. Nikola Vimmerová paced that Lady Lions that day with a 12th place finish overall in a time of 19:17.20 as SLU finished fourth in the team competition. Anthonate Barsai, Laney Wilkes, Jacqueline Thring, & Shanique Masters all had scoring finishes for the Lady Lions that day in Baton Rouge and will be looking to move up the ranks of the finishers on Saturday.

The Lions will run their first four-mile course of the year, having previously run a 5K and 6K to start 2023. At the LSU Invitational, Euan Lagan had a top-five finish as he ended the 6K course in 18:59.3, good for fourth place in Baton Rouge. He'll try to finish even higher on the Nicholls course, which will run almost a half-kilometer longer than the route the team ran in Baton Rouge two weeks ago. Noah Kiprotich, Tim Anstett, Darian Chestnut, Triston Watford, and Manny Portillo are had finishes which scored for the Lions at LSU and will look to better their position in Thibodaux.

Saturday's Nicholls Invitational serves as the final tune-up before Southeastern hosts its own meet, the Lion Up Invitational, on October 7th at Covey Rise Lodge in Husser.
