Southeastern Takes on Texas A&M-Commerce at Strawberry Stadium

SLU hosts second straight home game against Texas A&M-Commerce to kick-start Family Weekend.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will be back at home Friday to face Texas A&M-Commerce in a 7 p.m. match.

The match between Southeastern (3-6, 1-1) and Texas A&M-Commerce (4-5-1, 2-0) will be televised on ESPN+. Live stats can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net. Alumni of the team and family/friends of all the Lady Lions are welcome to Strawberry Stadium to recognize former players and kick-start family weekend.

Southeastern went 1-0 last weekend at home with a clutch 1-0 victory over UIW late into the match to earn its first conference win of the season. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. but was postponed due to a weather delay.

The Lady Lions stayed focused through the 22-hour delay and held a solid defensive front to hold UIW scoreless. Katie Brown claimed her first goal of the season and the lead for SLU off a counter-attack assisted by Hailie Yoder and Rylee Franklin. Southeastern goalkeeper Olivia Griffin played all 90 minutes of the contest with two saves to deny all UIW attempts around the net.

Texas A&M-Commerce won its last match Sunday in a victory over Northwestern State. The Lions have contributed 15 goals this season led by Hannah Bell with five. Texas A&M-Commerce goalkeepers Sophia Dean and Gillian McKenzie have split time in the net with a 2.50 goals against average.

Concluding Friday's match, Southeastern will remain at Strawberry Stadium for its next contest. The Lady Lions will play Lamar in a 5 p.m. match Oct.1.
