Guillory Named All-Conference First Team, Southeastern Ranked Third in Preseason Polls

Guillory is named to preseason First-Team yet again and SLU is in the top three under head coach Gillespie

HAMMOND, LA.  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team was ranked third in preseason polls on Friday. Mya Guillory was also named to the Pre-season All-Conference first team.

SLU earned third place overall in the pre-season polls underneath second year head coach Nathan Gillespie.  Just three points separated the third-ranked Lions (84) from the fifth-placed Demons (81), with the Huskies (82) sandwiched in between them. Southland Conference Champions Lamar are in first place while Texas A&M-Commerce is projected to be second.

"Being ranked third in the pre-season polls is a nice gesture from our conference opponents," Gillespie said, "but as a team we are focused on what we need to do and control our controllables. As a staff and a program, we are definitely zoned in this year. "

Guillory was named to first team for the third time during her collegiate career. Her first time being in 2021. After her performance last season and being named SLC Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year and Midfielder of the year, she rounds out 13 players on first team.

"I am beyond blessed to be selected for preseason first team," Guillory said,"  It is such an honor to be recognized by the coaches of the South Land conference."

"Mya is such an experienced player now, the level of play in the conference is no stranger to her. She is an extremely intelligent young lady and intelligence mixed with experience helps the best players rise to the top. She definitely falls into that category." Gillespie commented.
