HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University senior offensive lineman John Allen has been named to the 2023 Athlon Sports' FCS Preseason All-America Team, which was released Wednesday.
 
Allen, who hails from Jackson, Mississippi, returns for his final season after being named the Southland Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year last season for the SLC champions.
 
Allen, a Stats Perform and AFCA FCS Coaches All-America selection as a junior, started 12 games at left guard for a Lion offense that averaged 35.3 points and 439.8 yards per contest. His consistent excellence helped SLU weather the loss of three opening day starters on the offensive line by week four.
 
The banner list of 28 FCS All-Americans represent 20 schools and 11 conferences. Allen is the lone representative from the Southland Conference. The entire team can be viewed at https://athlonsports.com/college-football/athlon-sports-2023-preseason-fcs-all-america-team.
 
The Lions report to campus Aug. 1 with fall practice officially opening Aug. 2. Southeastern opens the 2023 season with three straight nonconference road contests, beginning with a Sept. 2 trip to Mississippi State.
