SLU Wins 10th Straight, Completes Second Straight SLC Series Sweep With 3-2 Victory at UIW

Red-hot Southeastern improves to 35-8 overall and 10-2 in Southland play

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana University outfielder Cam Goodman doubled home the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning to help the Lady Lion softball team to a 3-2 victory over UIW Saturday afternoon at H-E-B Field.

SLU (35-8, 10-2 SLC) extended its winning streak to 10 games and earned its second straight Southland Conference series sweep. UIW fell to 11-21-1 and 3-9 in conference play.

Lexi Johnson, Maddie Leal and Ka'Lyn Watson led Southeastern at the plate with two hits apiece. Bailey Krolczyk extended her hitting streak to 17 games, tying the school record set by former teammate Aeriyl Mass in 2021. Maddie Watson also drove in a run for Southeastern.

Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux (8-2) went the distance in the circle to earn the victory. The Port Allen, Louisiana native scattered five hits and struck out four to earn the win for the Lady Lions.

Comeaux had her 24.1 scoreless inning streak snapped in the bottom of the first inning. A two-run home run by Victoria Alatamirano gave UIW a 2-0 advantage.

SLU was held off the board until it finally got to Annie Gunther (5-6) in the top of the fourth inning. Krolczyk laced her team-high 12th double into the right centerfield gap with two outs, then Maddie Watson singled her home to cut the Cardinal lead to 2-1.

Southeastern tied it up in the top of the fifth inning. Leal singled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a throwing error to knot the game at 2-2.

The Lady Lions took the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning. Ka'Lyn Watson reached on a fielder's choice and scored all the way from first when Goodman lined a double into the left field corner to give SLU a 3-2 lead.

Comeaux worked around a leadoff walk, retiring the next three Cardinals to close out the victory for the Lady Lions.

Southeastern will continues its nine-game road swing next weekend, heading to HCU for a three-game SLC series. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes with a noon contest Saturday. The series with the Huskies will be televised on ESPN+.
