NEW ORLEANS, La. – New Orleans finished off the Pontchartrain Bowl series with a 3-2 win Saturday over the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team in Southland Conference action at Maestri Field.
Southeastern (16-16, 3-6 SLC) came out swinging against UNO (19-13, 5-4 SLC) pitching.
Tyler Finke and
Shea Thomas ripped back-to-back doubles to open up the game, putting the Lions on top.
Jake Killingsworth followed with a single, putting runners on the corners. Thomas was thrown out at the plate, attempting to score on a fly ball to right.
The Privateers tied it up in the bottom of the inning with a pair of singles, sandwiched around a groundout, led to a run off SLU starting pitcher
Andrew Landry.
Both starting pitchers settled in, holding down the bats until the sixth. UNO starting pitcher Brandon Mitchell retired 14 consecutive batters after a leadoff hit by
Dane Watts in the second. Landry retired eight straight following a one-out walk in the third.
Southeastern regained the lead in the sixth. Mitchell hit
Connor Manola with a two-out pitch and then walked
Champ Artigues.
Rhett Rosevear singled up the middle to score Manola.
The Privateers took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Landry issued a one-out walk, putting the tying run aboard. A two-out single followed by a two-run triple put UNO on top for the first time in the game.
SLU put the leadoff hitter aboard in the both the seventh and eighth, and had a pair aboard with one out in the ninth, but was unable to plate the tying run.
Mitchell (6-2) earned the win, allowing two runs in seven innings pitched. He scattered seven hits and one walk, striking out six. Privateers' reliever Colton Mercer earned his first save of the season, closing out the game with a pair of scoreless innings.
Landry (2-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in seven innings of work. He surrendered six hits and walked three batters, striking out three.
Southeastern has dropped its last six games.
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns home to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, hosting UL Lafayette at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The game is slated to be carried on ESPN+. It will be the second meeting between the two programs this season with the Ragin' Cajuns shutting out SLU, 2-0, in Lafayette on March 22.

Single-game tickets are now on sale. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to minimize ticket lines on game days. Southeastern students are encouraged to contact the ticket office prior to the game to reserve theirs in advance.
General admission tickets for most games are $9 for adults and $6 for youth (ages 3-12). Southeastern students, with a university ID, and children under age 2 are admitted for free. Gameday parking is $5 per day for standard vehicles and $25 for RVs.

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays. The ticket booth at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field opens exactly one hour prior to the scheduled first pitch.
Southeastern uses mobile ticketing as the primary method for distributing tickets purchased online. Tickets will be available via text message or email in a PDF format for fans to download on their phone or print at home. Tickets can also be downloaded to Apple Wallet.
