HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team looks to defend last season's Pontchartrain Bowl championship during its three-game Southland Conference series against the University of New Orleans at Maestri Field on the lakefront in New Orleans, Louisiana.
 
Games between Southeastern (16-13, 3-3 SLC) and the Privateers (16-13, 2-4 SLC) are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
 
Southeastern (16-13, 3-3 SLC) and the Privateers (16-13, 2-4 SLC) will now play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday. A final decision on game three of the series will be made at a later time.

SLU will send right-hander Brennan Stuprich (3-2, 4.71) to the mound in the series opener. He will match up against Privateer right-hander Collin Horton (2-3, 6.75).
 
The Lions have not announced starting pitchers for either of the final two games. UNO will send out a pair of lefties, Brandon Mitchell (5-2, 3.98) and Colton Mercer (2-2, 4.88), to finish out the series.
 
Southeastern's offense is led by Tyler Finke (.320), Shea Thomas (.294) and Champ Artigues (.279). Rhett Rosevear ranks third in the nation in HBPs (18) while Finke ranks second nationally in stolen bases (25).
 
The Lions lead the nation in HBPs (79) and rank seventh in stolen bases (77).
 
SLU is coming off a 10-6 loss Tuesday at Southern Miss in which the Golden Eagles scored six runs in the eighth inning for a comeback victory in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. UNO run-ruled Jackson State in seven innings, 21-4, Tuesday in Jackson, Mississippi.
 
Tristan Moore (.348), Kasten Furr (.315) and Tyler Bischke (.311) are the Privateers' leading hitters. UNO leads the conference in home runs (43) and runs scored (227). Moore has hit a team-high seven homers while Mitchell Sanford paces the squad with 30 RBIs.
 
Last season, Southeastern swept the Pontchartrain Bowl series in Hammond by scores of 5-4, 10-5 and 9-5. The Lions also won both matchups in the Southland Tournament and have won their last seven games overall against UNO.
 
SLU has claimed the Pontchartrain Bowl five times in the rivalry series' seven-year existence, winning in 2015, 2017-19 and 2022. The series was not played during the 2020 season.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns home, April 12, to host UL Lafayette in a non-conference matchup. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field and the game will be carried on ESPN+.
