HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team opens a nine-game homestand Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, hosting the University of Louisiana at Lafayette at 6 p.m. in a non-conference contest that matches up two of the top base-stealing teams in the nation.
It is the second meeting between the teams this season with the Ragin' Cajuns (23-9) shutting out Southeastern (16-16), 2-0, at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park in Lafayette, Louisiana back on March 22.
Wednesday's game will be carried on ESPN+. Live stats will be available online at www.LionSports.net and in the Lions Gameday Experience app. Fans can also receive in-game updates on Twitter by following the @LionUpBaseball account.
Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for the contest.
Tyler Finke (.313),
Shea Thomas (.300) and
Jake Killingsworth (.271) are the Lions' leading hitters. Thomas has driven in a team-high 30 runs. Finke ranks fourth nationally with 25 stolen bases while, as a team, Southeastern ranks ninth with 80 steals.
SLU is looking to snap a six-game skid that began during its last homestand. The Ragin' Cajuns, who host Louisiana Tech in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening before coming to Hammond, have won their last five.
Heath Hood (.376), Kyle DeBarge (.352), John Taylor (.333), Julian Brock (.327) and Carson Roccaforte (.307) are the Ragin' Cajuns' leading hitters. Brock owns a team-high eight home runs and 39 RBIs. Hood (23 SB) is the leading base-stealing threat for a squad that ranks fourth nationally with 98 stolen bases.
