MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The red-hot Southeastern Louisiana University softball team completed a perfect 5-0 performance at The Spring Games with a 7-3 extra-inning victory over Long Island Saturday afternoon at ROC Park.
With the victory, SLU (18-2) extended its win streak to eight games. LIU fell to 8-12 with the defeat. The 18-2 record is by far the program's best showing through 20 games, besting the 14-6 start by the 1998 and 2020 teams.
Bailey Krolczyk led Southeastern with two home runs and four RBI, while
Lexi Johnson drove in a pair of runs for the Lady Lions and
Maddie Watson added an RBI of her own.
KK Ladner (5-1) allowed two hits and struck out three in 4.1 innings of work to earn the win in the circle. The Kiln, Mississippi native lowered her season ERA to 0.80 and opponents are hitting .148 off the Kiln, Mississippi native.
Southeastern jumped to a 1-0 lead versus Lindsey Cowans (3-5) in the top of the second inning. Krolczyk hit a solo shot off a 2-2 Cowans offering to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead.
LIU would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to give the Sharks a 2-1 advantage. The Lady Lions would even the game in the top of the fourth inning, when Watson singled home
Madison Rayner to tie the score, 2-2.
Cowans and Ladner would match zeroes until the Lady Lions broke through in the eighth.
Maddie Leal would be placed on second, then back-to-back walks drawn by
Cam Goodman and
Maria Detillier loaded the bases with one out. One out later, Johnson laced a double into the right centerfield gap, scoring Leal and Goodman to give Southeastern the lead.
Krolczyk followed with a three-run home run to pad the SLU lead. The Corpus Christi, Texas native's third home run of the season gave the Lady Lions a commanding five-run advantage.
The runner placed on second scored in the bottom of the eighth, but
Alyssa Romano would not allow LIU to get any closer and secured the victory.
Southeastern will continue its 21-game road swing Wednesday with a 6 p.m. contest at Southern Miss.
