FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team picked up two honors for being top student-athletes as Roger McFarlane was named Southland Conference All-Academic First Team while Matthew Strange was named All-Academic Second Team Thursday by the conference office.
 
McFarlane, a sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., averaged 12.3 points per game on the 43.8% shooting, including 40.2% from three, while leading the team in rebounding, grabbing 8.2 boards per game as a member of the starting five. In the classroom, McFarlane had a 3.2 grade point average while working on deciding a major. This is McFarlane's first conference All-Academic honor.
 
Strange, a graduate from The Woodlands, Texas, averaged 5.7 points per game on 41.8% shooting, 41% from three, on the season as he served as a top reserve for the Lions on the year. In December, during the season, he completed his MBA in business administration while maintaining a 3.5 GPA. He was a member of 2019 conference commissioner's honor roll and was on Southland All-Academic Second Team as well in 2022.
 
McFarlane and Strange both helped guide the Lions to an 18-14 record overall, a 12-6 record in Southland Conference play, good for a third place finish in the conference standings.
