Gr. G Boogie Anderson earned his first All-Conference First Team selection
FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team got one of its own an All-Southland Conference award as
Boogie Anderson was named to the All-Conference First Team, the Southland announced on Friday.
Anderson, a graduate guard from Chandler, Ari., led Southeastern in scoring, assists, and steals on the year. He put in 14.1 points on 49.3% shooting on the season while picking up 4.4 assists per game while coming away with 1.2 steals per game. In Southland Conference play, he shot at a 50.2% clip and was consistent with 4.4 assists per contest.
He scored a season-high 24 points twice this season, both in games which the Lions won in overtime, a 78-76 overtime win at Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 18
th and a 78-75 win in overtime on senior day in the University Center on Feb. 25
th.
Anderson also notched two buzzer-beating, game-winning shots on the season, one being the final two points in the aforementioned win at A&M-Commerce where he also got an assist from the backcourt on
Matthew Strange's buzzer-beating three which forced the extra period, the other coming on Nov. 19
th at the Appalachian State Multi-Team Event as SLU set a record for the largest comeback with five minutes or less remaining by overcoming a 20-point deficit with 4:58 left as Anderson's shot gave the Lions a 70-69 win over the Campbell Camels.
A mainstay on the Summit League's All-Defensive Team during his time at the University of South Dakota, this is Anderson's first All-Conference First Team award.
Anderson and the Lions (18-13, 12-6 SLC) won 12 games in Southland Conference play for the first time since the 2018-19 season. That result earned Southeastern the #3 seed in the 2023 Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Basketball Championships presented by LouisianaTravel.com. SLU's first game in the tournament is set for Monday's quarterfinal round at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of Sunday's first round game between the #6-seed Houston Christian Huskies (10-21, 7-11 SLC) and #7 seed New Orleans Privateers (10-19, 7-11 SLC). All games in the 2023 Southland Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament are being played at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles and will be live streamed on ESPN+.
