SLU Embarks on Seven-Game Road Trip

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team heads east on a seven-game road trip with stops at Jacksonville, Alabama A&M and No. 13-ranked Auburn. SLU (7-2) kicks off the trip with a three-game series this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
Game times against the Dolphins (6-4) are 5 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday at John Sessions Stadium at Alexander Brest Field. All times listed are Central Time.
 
Pending the resumption of network services on campus, fans will be able to listen to game broadcasts online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via both the Lions Gameday Experience TuneIn Radio apps. The TuneIn app is compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late-model automobiles. Search for KSLU 90.9 FM in the TuneIn app.
 
Southeastern leads the all-time series against Jacksonville, 2-1, winning the previous three-game series played in Hammond during the abbreviated 2020 season.
 
The Lions will send right-hander Brennan Stuprich (1-0, 4.09) to the mound in the series opener. He will match up against Jacksonville righty Evan Chrest (0-0, 2.00).
 
Junior right-hander Will Kinzeler (2-0, 0.79) draws the starting assignment Saturday for SLU opposite Dolphin right-hander Christian Graham (1-0, 2.53).
 
Sunday, the Lions are slated to start right-hander Andrew Landry (1-1, 4.91) in the series finale against Jacksonville left-hander Dakota Stone (1-1, 5.79).
 
SLU has dropped its last two games after winning seven consecutive to open the season, tying the 2012 squad for the second-best start to a season in program history.
 
The Lions lead the nation in HBPs (40), ranking third in stolen bases (34), fourth in walks (70), sixth in runs scored (103) and eighth in on-base percentage (.469).
 
Southeastern's offense is led by Tyler Finke (.423), Connor Manola (.375), Champ Artigues (.364) and Jake Killingsworth (306). Finke leads the nation in run scored (20), ranking second in stolen bases (11), fifth in walks (13), sixth in on-base percentage (.659) and ninth in HBPs (5).
 
Rhett Rosevear leads the nation in HBPs (10) and is tied for fifth in walks with Finke. Shea Thomas ranks third nationally in sacrifice flies (3) and 25th in RBIs (15).
 
Jacksonville split a midweek series against No. 2-ranked Florida, dropping an 18-8 decision Tuesday at home and picking up a 10-8 victory Wednesday in Gainesville, Florida.
 
The Dolphins rank 11th nationally in walks (58) and 12th in stolen bases (21). The pitching staff ranks seventh in hit batters (21).
 
Cam Ridley (.324), Hogan McIntosh (.289) and Chandler Howard (.282) are Jacksonville's leading hitters.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern continues on its road trip with a 1 p.m. midweek contest Wednesday in Huntsville, Alabama against Alabama A&M. It will be the first matchup between the two schools on the diamond. The Lions conclude their trip with a three-game series at Auburn, March 10-12.
