TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team completed its third straight winning weekend with a 6-2 victory over Indiana State Sunday morning at Rhoads Stadium.
SLU (12-2) finished the tournament with a 3-2 record after its second win over Indiana State (5-5) in as many tries.
The Lady Lions recorded 11 hits in Sunday's win, as
Bailey Krolczyk,
Maddie Watson,
Audrey Greely and
Ka'Lyn Watson contributed two hits apiece. Krolczyk and
Maddie Watson also drove in two runs each.
KK Ladner (2-1) struck out five and scattered two hits in four scoreless innings to earn the win in the circle.
Cera Blanchard and
Ellie DuBois combined for three shutout innings of relief to close out the victory.
For their efforts this weekend, Blanchard, Krolczyk and
Maddie Watson were named to the Easton Bama Bash All-Tournament Team.
Indiana State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first versus Lady Lion starter
Leah Marshall before Ladner came in to limit the damage.
Southeastern answered right back in the top of the second.
Maddie Watson doubled home Krolczyk, then scored on an RBI single by
Ka'Lyn Watson to knot the score at 2-2.
Ladner and ISU pitcher Lauren Sackett (2-2) matched zeroes until SLU took the lead for good in the fifth inning. Back-to-back bunt singles by
Cam Goodman and
Maria Detillier, followed by a
Britt Bourgoyne walk loaded the bases with no outs. Goodman would score on a
Lexi Johnson fielder's choice, then Krolczyk doubled home another run to put the Lady Lions up, 4-2.
Southeastern added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Detillier walked, moved to second when
Madison Rayner was hit by a pitcher, advanced to third on a sac bunt by Johnson and scored on a sacrifice fly by Krolczyk.
Maddie Watson doubled home Rayner later in the inning to give SLU a four-run cushion. DuBois sat the Sycamores down in order to close out the victory.
Southeastern will continue its 21-game road swing on Wednesday, traveling to FAMU for a 4 p.m. (Central) contest in Tallahassee, Florida.
