HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team heads out on the road for the first time during the 2023 season, traveling up Interstate 55 to Jackson, Mississippi for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest Tuesday against Jackson State at Robert "Bob" Braddy Field.
Southeastern (4-0) will square off against the Tigers (2-1) for the first time since the 2018 season. Jackson State won both games during the 2018 season by identical, 4-3, scores. Prior to 2018, the Lions had won 17 of the previous 19 matchups.
Streaming video of Tuesday's game will be available through the Jackson State website for a fee. Live stats will also be provided. There will be no radio coverage. Fans can follow the @LionUpBaseball Twitter account for in-game updates.
Aaron Hosack, a right-hander from Shidler, Oklahoma, draws the starting assignment for the Lions on the mound. A transfer from Connors State College, the 6-foot-5 junior will be making his first appearance for Southeastern.
Jackson State will counter with sophomore left-hander Francis Thorne Jr. The southpaw from Atlanta, Georgia logged one scoreless inning last season for the Tigers.
Southeastern is coming off a four-game sweep of Lafayette College to open the season. The Lions are led offensively by
Tyler Finke (.455) – the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week – along with
Champ Artigues (.429),
Pierce Leavengood (.333) and
Christian Garcia (.308).
Finke leads the nation in stolen bases (7) and ranks second in runs scored (9). His six walks are 12
th nationally. He also leads the Southland with seven RBIs and an eye-popping .700 on-base percentage.
The Tigers dropped their season opener to rival Southern before claiming victories over Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State at the Astros Cactus Jack HBCU Classic in Houston, Texas over the weekend.
Jackson State, which is hitting .323 as a team, is led offensively by Daniel Bannon (.500), Colby Guy (.429) and Jaelen Williams (.333).

Southeastern returns to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field this coming weekend for a three-game series against former conference foe Samford. Games are slated for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
