SLU Looks to Snap Season-Long Three-Game Skid, Clinch Conference Tournament Berth

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team looks to end its longest losing streak of the season and officially clinch its spot in next month's Southland Conference Tournament when the Lions play two of a three-game road trip this week, traveling to conference co-leading Northwestern State on Thursday and Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday.

Southeastern (14-12, 8-5 SLC) enters the week trying to end the first three-game skid of the season, which has seen the Lions go from atop the Southland Conference standings to fourth place with five games remaining in the regular season.

In SLU's most recent contest, Saturday's 88-77 home loss to Nicholls State, Roger McFarlane finished the game one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high 22 points and nine boards. Brody Rowbury wasn't far behind him, just three boards shy of his own double-double with 14 points and seven rebounds as he hit all four of his shot attempts and six of his seven free throw attempts. Boogie Anderson scored in double figure points for the ninth straight game and team-leading 19th time this season with 12 points. Roscoe Eastmond also finished the game with 12 points.

Anderson continues to lead the Lions in scoring, 13.3 points per game, assists, 4.2 per game, and steaks, 1.4 per game. He hits 48.3% of his shots and grabs 3.3 rebounds a game. McFarlane averages 11.6 points per game while leading SLU in rebounds at 7.9 per game and hits 38.8% from three on the year. Nick Caldwell scores 10.8 points per game, grabs 5.3 rebounds a contest, and leads Southeastern in blocked shots, averaging 0.9 blocks a game. He hits 51% from the field and hits 36.4% from deep. Rowbury hits 58.8% of his field goal attempts on his way to 8.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Alec Woodard hits 53.7% from the field and 48.8% from three on his way to 8.2 points per game.

On Thursday, Southeastern heads to Natchitoches for the second showdown with Northwestern State (18-8, 10-3 SLC), looking to earn a season split with its oldest and most prevalent foe after dropping a 91-81 overtime decision last month. That win in Hammond was the first of what has stretched out to eight straight wins by the Demons heading into Thursday's match-up. In NSU's last game, a 72-64 home win over Texas A&M-Commerce, both Ja'Monta Black and DeMarcus Sharp led the Demons with 18 points each. Black added three rebounds and three steals while Sharp had seven rebounds and two assists. Isaac Haney added 14 points and five rebounds while Jalen Hampton finished with a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Sharp leads NSU by averaging 17.8 points per game on 44.9% shooting, including 59.5% from above the arc and grabs 5.4 rebounds per game while leading the team in assists at 4.8 per game and blocks at 0.7 per game. Black scores 16.6 points per game on 38.6% shooting and 37.1% from there but has hit 102 three-point shots on the season. Haney averages 10.9 points per game and averages 4.4 rebounds a contest. Hampton leads NSU in rebounding at 7.1 boards per game.

Tip-off of Thursday's game against the Demons is set for 8:00 p.m. in the Prather Coliseum and will be live-streamed on ESPN+.

On Saturday, SLU will look to finish a season sweep of Texas A&M-Commerce (11-15, 7-5 SLC) after the green and gold knocked off Commerce 79-73 last month. The new Lions of the SLC enter the week coming off back-to-back losses to Northwestern State last week. In Saturday's loss to the Demons, Demarcus Demonia led A&M-Commerce with 17 points while also grabbing six rebounds. JJ Romer Rosario had 13 points and led the Lions with seven rebounds. Khaliq Abdul-Mateen came off the bench and scored 11 points on four-of-five shooting.

Demonia is the lone Commerce Lion averaging double digits in points, putting in 15.9 points per game on 44% shooting while also leading the Lions in rebounds at 5.2 per game and steals, 1.1 per game. C.J. Roberts is on the cusp of joining him at 9.6 points per game, as is Kale Williams at 9.2 points while leading Commerce in assists at 2.4 assists per game.

Saturday's game against Texas A&M-Commerce is set for 4:30 p.m. and will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
