SLU Looks for First-Ever Win at Murray State

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team will finish the barnstorming portion of its non-conference schedule, wrapping up a four-game road trip and run of nine games out of 10 away from the Pride Roofing University Center, on Saturday as it heads to Kentucky to face off with Murray State in a 3:00 p.m. contest at the CFSB Center.

The game between the Lions (2-8) and Racers (3-6) will be live streamed on ESPN+ with a radio broadcast available through the Southeastern Sports Radio Network on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area and worldwide on LionSports.net/ListenLive and LionUpRadio.org. The broadcast can also be heard on the smart device through the Lions Gameday Experience app, the TuneInRadio app, or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats will also be available through the host institution.

Southeastern continues to seek its first win away from the Pride Roofing University Center as Saturday's contest marks the final opportunity to pick up a road win before the start of Southland Conference play in January. In SLU's last contest, an 89-60 loss at Louisiana Tech, the Lions seemed to get some of its outside shooting going, but the Bulldogs shots fell as a higher rate, dooming the Lions to their third-straight loss.

Alec Woodard tied a career-high by hitting four three-pointers in Tuesday's game in Ruston, leading to him scoring a team-high 16 points which was also just one point off of his season-high 17 which he scored at Santa Clara. Woodard also grabbed four rebounds and was credited with three steals.

Nick Caldwell made it four-straight games of scoring 10 or more points by racking up 13 points at Louisiana Tech. On his way to those 13 points, he hit six of his 11 shot attempts, marking the third time in four games where he connected on more than half of his field goal opportunities. Tuesday's game was the 131st game where Caldwell has taken the floor for the green and gold, tying him with Moses Greenwood for the second-most ever appearances by a player for Southeastern. His next appearance will tie him with Marlian Veal for the SLU career games played record.

For the second straight game, Brody Rowbury threatened a double-double against the Bulldogs, ultimately finishing the contest with eight points and eight rebounds. He was coming off a game at Southern where he had eight points and nine rebounds.

Roger McFarlane continues to be the team's top scorer and rebounder, averaging 13.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest. He hits on 39.3% of his shot attempts so far this season and is hitting at a 33.3% clip from beyond the three-point arc.

Caldwell's offensive output has increased over the last few games and he is now averaging 12.5 points per game while grabbing 5.2 boards per contest. He's hitting 52.8% from the field on the year and 41.7% from three.

Southeastern averages 68.7 points per game on the season while shooting 41.7% from the field as a team and 31.6% from above the arc. SLU opponents score 77.2 points per game and hit 46.1% of their shots, including 33.5% from beyond the arc.

Murray State is looking to get right as well, trying to end a three-game losing streak while having dropped six of their last seven contests. All three of their losses during the current three-game skid have been by four points.

The Racers found themselves down 19 points in the second half of their most recent contest, a road date on Wednesday night at Mississippi State. Murray State then went on a 33-12 run to take the lead with three minutes remaining, and still had the advantage as the clock ticked under 45 seconds remaining in the contest. However, the Bulldogs scored the game's final points to come away with an 85-81 win, dooming the Racers to their third-straight loss.

Rob Perry led the charge for Murray State with 21 points, hitting seven of 14 from the field which included five of nine from three on Wednesday night. He also had three assists, two rebounds, and a steal.

JaCobi Wood picked up a double-double by scoring 18 points and dishing out 10 assists against the Bulldogs. Wood played all 40 minutes, hitting five of 12 from the field, including three of six from distance, grabbed two rebounds and had a steal.

Quincy Anderson ended the night at Mississippi State with 17 points as he went five of nine from the field, including two of four from three, and snatched three boards.

Perry is Murray State's top scorer on the year, averaging 15.7 points per game so far this season while hitting 43.9% of his shots from the field and 32.1% from deep. He also secures 5.1 rebounds a contest for the Racers.

Wood follows him by averaging 14 points per game while hitting 48.1% of his field goal attempts and 45.7% from above the arc. He's also the team's top assistant, dishing out 4.4 helpers per game.

Brian Moore, Jr. puts in 12.4 points per game, connecting on 50% of his shots and 44.4% from three.

Nick Ellington rounds out the top scorers for the Racers by scoring 10.3 points per game while snagging a team-high 7.6 rebounds a contest. 61.7% of the shots he takes during a game goes into the hoop.

Murray State averages 74.3 points per game on the year while connecting on 45.8% of its shot attempts and 34.8% from above the three-point arc. Racer opponents score 72.4 points per game while shooting at a 46.1% clip and 33.2% from above the arc.

This game will be just the seventh all-time meeting between the Lions and Racers, with the most recent contest between the two taking place during the 1983-84 season, a game Murray State pulled out by a 45-44 score. The only time the two teams met in Hammond was Southeastern's lone win in the series, a 75-65 Lions win during the 1982-83 season.
