Sr. G Roscoe Eastmond enters the week averaging 7.1 points & 4.2 assists per game in 2023-24
HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team completes the Louisiana portion of its current four-game road trip on Tuesday as the Lions head to Ruston to take on Louisiana Tech in a 6:00 p.m. contest at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The game between the Lions (2-7) and Bulldogs (8-2) will be streamed on ESPN+ while a radio broadcast will also be available on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area and worldwide at LionSports.net/ListenLive or LionUpRadio.org. The audio stream can also be found on the smart device on the Lions Gameday Experience app, the TuneIn Radio app, or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats for Tuesday's game will also be available.
Southeastern will be looking to end a two-game slide, looking to get its offense in gear after a tough outing Saturday at Southern where SLU shot 25% in the first half and raised it up to 30.4% at game's end.
Nick Caldwell was the only Lion to score in double figures against the Jaguars, finishing with 14 points as he hit four of his seven shot attempts from the field, two of three from above the arc, and four of six at the free throw line while also securing seven rebounds.
Brody Rowbury enjoyed a successful first half on Saturday, scoring six points and grabbing eight rebounds, but was limited in the second half and finished with eight points and nine boards on the day.
Roger McFarlane remains Southeastern's top scorer and rebounder on the season, averaging 13.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest. He's hit on 39.5% through the first nine games of the season, including 33.3% from above the three-point arc. Caldwell has seen his averages rise over the last three, now sitting at 12.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. Caldwell, who has appeared in 130 career games for the Lions which is just two games shy of the all-time SLU career record of 132 games played by Marlian Veal, is currently hitting 52.6% from the field this season, including 40.9% from long range.
Through nine games this season, the Lions are averaging 69.7 points per game on 41.8% shooting as a team while hitting 31.7% from long range. SLU's opponents average 75.9 points per game on 46.1% shooting on the year while hitting 31.2% from above the three-point arc.
After dropping its first game of the season, Louisiana Tech has won eight of its last nine and is currently riding the momentum of a three-game win streak entering Tuesday's contest.
In its last contest, the Bulldogs built up a 21-point lead over Louisiana-Lafayette and held off a frantic comeback by the Ragin' Cajuns for a 72-67 win at home on Sunday. Tahlik Chavez led Louisiana Tech with 30 points in Sunday's win over ULL, hitting nine of his 13 shot attempts in the game including four of eight from above the three-point arc while going eight of 12 from the free throw line. He filled up his stat line with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Daniel Batcho finished with 14 points, hitting three of eight from the field and was a perfect eight-for-eight at the free throw line. He grabbed a team-high eight boards and blocked a shot. Isaiah Crawford did a little bit of everything on Sunday, scoring five points, dishing out six assists, grabbing five rebounds, and block two shots.
Crawford leads the Bulldogs in scoring on the season with 14.4 points per game while hitting 50.5% of his shot attempts and grabs 5.3 rebounds while doling out three assists a contest. Batcho is averaging a double-double through 10 games this season, scoring 13 points and collecting 10.5 rebounds each time out. He hits 51.5% of his shot attempts and blocks 1.5 opposing shots per contest. Chavez is the last Bulldog averaging double digits in scoring as he averages 11.7 points per game. As Louisiana Tech's top three-point shooter, most of his shots are from above the arc, hitting 35.9% from the field and 34.3% from three-point distance.
Louisiana Tech averages 75 points per game so far this season while hitting 44.4% from the field and 35.6% from above the arc as a team. Bulldog opponents score 61.2 points per game while hitting 36.9% from the field and 29.4% from distance against them.
Tuesday's game, while serving as the final of three-straight road games in the state of Louisiana, is not the end of the road trip overall. Southeastern finishes the extended road trip on Saturday against Murray State in Kentucky before finally coming home for two-straight to round out non-conference action.
