HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team looks to make it two wins in a row to start the season when they head on the road to take on an Auburn Tiger team that is receiving votes in both the AP Poll and USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll Friday at Neville Arena.
Friday's game between the Lions (1-0) and RV/RV Tigers (0-1) is set for 7:00 p.m. in Auburn's Neville Arena. The game will be live streamed on the SEC Network+ with live stats also available.
Southeastern is coming off of a season-opening 90-71 win over Delta State on Monday in the Pride Roofing University Center. SLU shots 62.1% in the win while holding the Statesmen to 38.4% shooting, including just 16.2% from above the three-point arc.
Six Lions scored 10 or more points in Monday's win, led by
Roger McFarlane's 14 points. Both
Roscoe Eastmond and
Nick Caldwell made six of their eight shots from the field on their way to 13 points each. Eastmond added four assists while Caldwell had Southeastern's lone blocked shot in the contest.
Avery Wilson had 11 points in his return to action after three years of waiting to finally suit up for the Lions.
Brody Rowbury and
Alec Woodard each had 10 points. Rowbury made five of his six shot attempts in the contest along with eight rebounds while Woodard went four-of-six with three rebounds and a pair of assists.
The Tigers went to South Dakota to open their season, dropping an 88-82 decision to #20/#17 Baylor on Tuesday night at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. Auburn actually out-shot the Bears, hitting 44.4% of their shots on their way to 28 made field goals while Baylor hit 43.3% of their shots and made 26 buckets. The difference was three-point shooting, where Baylor made 14 three-pointers while Auburn hit nine from above the arc, and the foul game as Auburn committed 32 fouls, giving Baylor 34 free throw attempts of which, they made 27 while the Bears were whistled for 22 fouls, giving the Tigers 25 free throw attempts, of which they made 17.
Aden Holloway came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points for the Tigers while also dishing out a team-high six assists with three rebounds and a blocked shot in Tuesday's game. Johni Broome picked up a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to go with two assists and a blocked shot. Denver Jones finished the night getting 13 points with two assists, a rebound, and a steal.
Friday's game will be the fifth-ever meeting between the Tigers and Lions, all having been played in Alabama and all previous match-ups having been won by AU. The most recent meeting between the two teams came during the 2008-09 season, a 77-65 Auburn win.
