FRISCO, Texas – The defending Southland Conference Champion Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team was rewarded for taking control of the Southland Conference regular season championship race as
Rachel Hartmann was named the SLC Offensive Player of the Week while
Jacqueline Arrington took the Defensive Player of the Week nod, the conference office announced on Monday.
Hartmann, a junior setter and opposite from Slidell, took home the offensive honor after averaging 4.83 points per set in wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Incarnate Word. In the two matches, she averaged 4.67 kills per set on a .650 attack percentage and added two block assists as well. In the win over the Islanders, Hartmann finished with her fourth 20+ kill match by tallying 20 kills on an astounding .731 attack percentage while adding an assist and five digs. Two days later against Incarnate Word, she tallied eight kills on a .500 attack percentage with two block assists and nine digs. This is Hartmann's fourth SLC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season.
Arrington, a senior middle hitter from Houston, Texas, took home the defensive honor on a week where she blocked 10 opposing attacks. In the win over A&M-Corpus Christi, Arrington blocked five attacks, four assisted and one solo, as SLU held the potent Islander offense to just a .184 attack percentage as SLU took sole possession of first place in the conference standings. She added five more blocks, all assisted, in the win over UIW while leading the team in kills with nine while not committing an attack error and hit .692. This is Arrington's second SLC Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
Hartmann, Arrington, and the rest of the Lady Lions (24-4, 15-1 SLC) look to clinch a share of the Southland Conference regular season championship as well as the top seed in the upcoming SLC Championship Tournament on Thursday when Lamar comes to Hammond on Senior Night in the Pride Roofing University Center. Opening serve of Thursday's match against the Cardinals (2-25, 2-14 SLC) is set for 6:30 p.m. and the match will be live streamed on ESPN+ with a radio broadcast on KSLU 90.9 FM in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area and worldwide on LionSports.net/ListenLive.
