Southeastern Takes on Millsaps in Season Opener

Southeastern opens the season Monday morning against Millsaps at 11 a.m. to begin the 2023-24 season.

HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference champions Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will open its 2023-24 season hosting Millsaps Monday morning at 11 a.m. in the Pride Roofing University Center.
 
The game between Southeastern (0-0) and Millsaps (0-0) will be televised on ESPN+. Listen to the game on radio provided by KSLU 90.9 FM. Live stats can be accessed on the women's basketball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
 
Southeastern has multiple players returning to the hardwood, including SLC Tournament MVP in 2023, Hailey Giaratano, who averaged 12.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore Jalencia Pierre returning from a thrilling freshman campaign and senior guard Daija Harvey are also similar faces for Monday's matchup. Along with junior guard Taylor Bell looking to have an impactful performance this season.
 
SLU has also added some new faces with Prairie View A&M transfer Kennedy Paul, who led the team in scoring, and junior college transfers Mackenzie Thomas and Cheyanne Daniels in the paint. Jones College transfer Arianna Patton is another new face to contribute to Southeastern in the guard position.
 
The Lady Lions are coming back from their first 20-win season, as well as winning the conference regular season along with the SLC Tournament. With their first NCAA Tournament appearance, the Lady Lions are looking to repeat last year's success.
 
Millsaps is opening its first two games of the season to be battle tested on the road. The Majors are returning junior guard Haley Franklin who averaged 19 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season.
 
Following Monday's matchup, Southeastern will travel to Starkville, Mississippi. The Lady Lions will face Mississippi State for a 6:30 p.m. game Nov. 10.
