HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team plays the second of its five-game road trip on Wednesday as the Lions play the first of two games out west, heading to Provo, Utah for a date with the BYU Cougars, who received votes in the latest version of both the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and
USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Tip off between the Lions (1-1) and RV/RV Cougars (2-0) is set for 8:00 p.m. CST/7:00 p.m. MST from the Marriott Center in Provo. The game will be live streamed on Big XII Now on ESPN+ while a radio broadcast from BYU will also be available on SiriusXM channel 143. Live stats will also available through the host institution.
Wednesday's game against BYU will be Southeastern's second straight road game against a team receiving recognition in both of the major basketball polls, following last Friday's game at Auburn, who was also receiving votes at the time of tip-off against SLU.
Roger McFarlane will look to continue his quick start to the season, coming off of his first double-double of 2023-24 in Friday's 86-71 loss to Auburn as he scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds about the Tigers.
Roscoe Eastmond also continued to show his scoring prowess in the early season, scoring 15 points on Friday. After a 10-point performance at Auburn,

McFarlane's hot start has him averaging 19 points and eight rebounds a game through two contests, leading the team in both categories. He's hitting 41.9% of his shots nad is 50% from above the three-point arc. Eastmond is scoring 14 points per game on 47.8% shooting while also hitting 50% from three and is averaging 3.5 rebounds and three assists a contest. Caldwell averages 11.5 points per game on 64.3% shooting, doing all of his work inside so far on this young season, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out two assists a contest.
Brody Rowbury currently sits at 9.5 points per game on 63.6% shooting and grabs 6.5 rebounds a contest.
Alec Woodard is also hitting at a 63.6% clip, including two-of-three from above the arc, to average eight points a contest along with three rebounds.
Avery Wilson is also off to a hot shooting start, hitting 60% of his shots on his way to 7.5 points per game and two rebounds a contest.
The Lions have hit on 50.4% of their shot attempts through two games on the season to average 80.5 points on the season. SLU hits on 37.5% of their three-point attempt and grabs 36.5 rebounds a contest.
After rolling past another Southland squad in Houston Christian, 110-63, to open the season, BYU made an early season statement by upsetting then #17/#15 San Diego State, 74-65, at home on Friday night. The Cougars got a big boost from their reserves to spur the upset as Dallin Hall, Jaxson Robinson, and Richie Saunders all came off the bench to score at least 10 points with Hall actually leading the team in scoring on the night with 18 points. Robinson and Saunders both finished with 12 points. The top starters in the win over the Aztecs were Fousseyni Traore, who finished the contest with 12 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, and Spencer Johnson, who ended the contest with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Johnson is BYU's top scorer currently, averaging 15 points per game on 44.4% shooting while hitting on 28.6% of his three-point attempts. He's also averaging six rebounds a game as well as five assists per contest after the season's opening week. Trevin Knell hits 42.1% of his shots and 46.2% from three to average 13 points per game through the opening couple of games while grabbing 4.5 rebounds a contest. Robinson is averaging 12.5 points per game on 45.5% shooting, including 41.7% from three, with 2.5 rebounds a contest. Hall is at 12 points per game on 52.9% shooting, including 44.4% from deep. He grabs two rebounds a contest and dishes out three assists per game. Saunders is putting in 10.5 points per game on 46.2% shooting and grabs 4.5 rebounds a contest. Traore scores on 53.3% of his shot attempts as he puts up nine points a contest with 8.5 rebounds per game.
The Cougars score on 45.5% of their shots through two games on the year on their way to 92 points per game. BYU hits on 35.7% of their three-point attempts and grabs 50.5 rebounds per contest.
Friday's match-up between the Lions and Cougars is the first ever meeting between the two sides. Following Wednesday's game, Southeastern heads even further west for its first official game of the Emerald Coast Classic, taking a trip to the Bay Area of California for a game Saturday against Santa Clara to end the two-game trip out west.
