HAMMOND, La. – After helping the Southeastern Louisiana University football team to its third straight victory, defensive end
Joshua Randall was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
Randall is the third Lion to earn SLC defensive weekly honors this fall, along with teammates
Ian Conerly-Goodly and
Victor Tademy.
Randall was a major factor in SLU's best defensive effort of the season in the Lions' 52-14 conference road victory over Texas A&M-Commerce. Southeastern forced five turnovers and held the hosts to 209 total yards, including -23 yards rushing.
Randall collected three of Southeastern's season-high seven sacks in Saturday's win. He also forced a fumble that fellow defensive end
Shemar Pearl recovered. The turnover led to a
Zachary Clement touchdown run four plays later that gave the Lions a commanding 38-0 second-quarter lead.
Randall and the Lions will close out the 2023 season Thursday, hosting Nicholls for the Rivel Bell Classic at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The contest between the Lions and the visiting Colonels will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard live on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
Burns Estate Planning and Wealth Advisors is Thursday's game sponsor. Thursday will be Heroes Night, as all first responders and military personnel receive free admission by presenting a valid ID.
