STARKVILLE, Miss. – The reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team falls to Mississippi State in a 67-46 loss on the road Friday evening at Humphrey Coliseum.
Southeastern (1-1) had an exceptional start in the first half leading Mississippi State (2-0) by six points five minutes into the contest. The Lady Lions finished the quarter in a tight 27-26 battle with the Bulldogs at the end of the first half.

Kennedy Paul had a solid performance to lead Southeastern with 11 points and five rebounds. Paul's versatility allowed her to score from all areas on the court shooting 50.0 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs returned from halftime to take a 12-point lead in the third quarter. Debreasha Powe led the team with 19 points and nine rebounds connecting on five three-pointers to finish out the game.
SLU had a slow start in the third quarter allowing Mississippi State its best scoring run and fell into a 24-8 scoring deficit. The Bulldogs would extend their biggest lead of the game to a 25-point advantage over the Lady Lions late in the fourth quarter. Powe, Jerkaila Jordan and Jessika Carter ended the night with double digit scoring.
Southeastern had a short run toward the end of the game to lessen the deficit. The Lady Lions ended with 36 total rebounds, eight assists and four blocks over their power five opponent.
Hailey Giaratano contributed double-digit scoring for the second consecutive game with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Cheyanne Daniels trailed with nine points and six rebounds on the night, followed by
Taylor Bell and
Jalencia Pierre who each had seven points.
The Lady Lions will return to action Tuesday against Southern-New Orleans at home for a 6 p.m. matchup Nov. 14. Tuesday's game will honor graduate senior
Kennedy Paul as the Spotlight Player. Fans stick around to see the championship banner drop from the 2022-23 season and receive autographs from the players after the game.
