Sr. Euan Lagan paced the Lions in the men's 8K at the SLC Championships
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country teams wrapped up their 2023 season at the Southland Conference Championships on Friday at a rain-soaked Windcrest Golf Club where the women finished 10
th and the men finished ninth.
Up first was the women's championship race on a six-kilometer course. With
Nikola Vimmerová unable to go, it was
Ava Pitarro who led the Lady Lions home as she finished in 46
th place in a time of 24:46.5.
Anthonate Barsai was the next Southeastern runner to come home, crossing the line in 26:15.3 for a 54
th place finish.
Shanique Masters,
Alivia Buley, and
Hannah Linebaugh all came home one behind the other in 60
th, 61
st, and 62
nd, respectively.
Jacqueline Thring rounded out the pack for SLU, coming home in 64
th. At the end of the race, Southeastern had amassed 265 total points in the team competition.
The men's race followed on a course which ran eight-kilometers long. As he has all season,
Euan Lagan was the first to cross the finish line for the Lions, coming home in 31
st place in a time of 26:44.0.
Noah Kiprotich was the next Southeastern runner to finish, stopping the clock at 28:45.9 in 53
rd place.
Landen Schillage was next in 64
th place with
Tim Anstett crossing soon after in 66
th.
Joel Boerkey and Courtlin Bauchand came home back-to-back in 69
th and 70
th, respectively.
Darian Chestnut,
Manny Portillo, and
Triston Watford also finished one behind the other in 73
rd, 74
th, and 75
th, respectively, to round out SLU's field. Southeastern finished with 260 points as a team.
With the cross country season now complete, attention turns to the start of the track & field season. The Lions open the indoor portion of the track & field schedule on Friday, January 12
th in Baton Rouge at the LSU Purple Tiger meet. Field events start at 11:00 a.m. while track events start at 1:00 p.m. in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
