HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana University football team will celebrate Homecoming Saturday, hosting SLC foe Lamar at 3 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
The game between the Lions (0-6, 0-2 SLC) and the Cardinals (3-3, 2-0 SLC) will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM.
The annual Homecoming parade will roll through campus at 11:30 a.m. and the 2023 SLU Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime. First Guaranty Bank will be the game sponsor for the clash between Southeastern and visiting LU.
Southeastern heads into the second half of its schedule in search of its first win of 2023. The Lions rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit at No. 6/8 UIW, but fell just short in a 33-26 loss to the Cardinals.
In the road loss to UIW, SLU outgained the hosts, 416-371, and also forced three Cardinal turnovers.
Eli Sawyer threw for 271 yards and connected with
Bauer Sharp and
Jaylon Domingeaux on touchdown passes, while
Zachary Clement rushed for a score.
On defense,
Ian Conerly-Goodly led the Lions with a season-high 16 tackles, as he and
Garrett Crawford each forced fumbles.
Kunta Hester recorded his first interception of the season, while
Shemar Pearl and
Victor Tademy each recovered fumbles.
Southestern enters Saturday's Homecoming contest averaging 18.5 points and 349.8 yards per contest. Sawyer (91-for-145, 1,030 yards, 5 TD, 3 INT) and Clement (37-for-59, 428 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT) have split time under center.
Darius Lewis leads the team with 28 catches for 300 yards, while Sharp and
Jacob Logan have each hauled in three touchdowns.
Harlan Dixon paces SLU with 241 rushing yards, as he and Clement each have rushed for two scores.
The Lion defense is allowing 34.0 points and 448.5 yards per game through six games. Conerly-Goodly is currently ninth in FCS with 69 tackles on the season. He is joined in the team's top five tacklers by

Arlen Williams has a team-best three sacks, while
Tyrone Legette leads SLU with two interceptions.

Austin Dunlap is currently 16th in FCS with a league-best 43.7 punting average to lead the Lion special teams units.
Lamar heads to Hammond sitting atop the Southland Conference and riding a three-game winning streak. The Cardinals outscored Northwestern State, 14-0, in the final quarter to earn a 27-13 league victory last Saturday.
LU is averaging 20.5 points and 321.7 yards per contest heading into Saturday's contest. Robert Coleman (90-for-141, 1,080 yards, 7 TD, 3 INT) has handled the quarterbacking duties with Andre Dennis (19 catches, 282 yards, 2 TD) and Kyndon Fuselier (18-177-1 TD) his top targets. Khalan Griffin leads Lamar with 432 rushing yards and three scores.
Opponents are averaging 22.2 points and 335.8 yards per contest versus the Cardinal defense. Jalloh Fadoy leads Lamar with 42 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss.
Reigning Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Damashja Harris returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score in the win over NSU and leads the SLC with a 29.1 kickoff return average.
Southeastern is 13-4 all-time versus the Cardinals. The Lions and Lamar last met last November with SLU winning, 47-31, in Beaumont - the fifth victory in a row for Southeastern versus its SLC rival.
Following the Homecoming contest, SLU will next head to Natchitoches for a 2 p.m. Southland contest next Saturday at Northwestern State. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard can be heard on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM.
