The Lady Lions fell to the Privateers 59-42 at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans Satruday afternoon.

NEW ORLEANS, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team went to New Orleans to play UNO for the second time this weekend Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lakefront Arena. The Lady Lions fell, 59-42.

Southeastern (11-8, 6-3 SLC) fell to the Privateers (4-14, 3-6 SLC) 59-42 at New Orleans Saturday afternoon

Lady Lion, Alexius Horne led SLU with 10 points. Natalie Kelly led with eight rebounds and Chrissy Brown trailing closely behind with six. Cierra Cunningham had three assists and Jen Pierre had two steals.

The first quarter had the same trend as Thursday, Southeastern finding their identity on offense and sinking 5-of-14 field goals and were able to get a solid 15 points in the first quarter but UNO were expectant and closed the point deficit to only three by the end of the period.

The second quarter started out strong for SLU as Kelly had a turnaround shot off an assist by Cunningham that increased the score to 17-14 with 8:48 left in the half. As time went on, UNO got closer and closer to the Lady Lions and a few times during the quarter, the score was tied. The deciding factor of the half was a three-pointer put up by UNO's Kyla Davis with 1:03 left on the clock. It was a one-point game when Hailey Giaratano put up a jump shot and made the score 26-25 with UNO in the lead as the half ended.

The third quarter opened up quick as Pierre put up a driving layup and Southeastern was back in the lead. SLU's shooting percentage would be the best of the entire game in the third with 40% shooting from the floor. UNO would outshoot the Lady Lions by 13 points and the lead would go back to the Privateers, 50-34.

Southeastern and New Orleans were evenly matched throughout the fourth quarter as each team made three shots from the floor and were 100% on free throws. SLU played well on defensive through the fourth quarter but after UNO's hot streak in the third quarter, the Lady Lions would fall 59-42 to the Privateers.

SLU had 14 points from turnovers, 12 in the paint, 14 second chance and six fast break points against UNO.

The Lady Lions play at home Thursday Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. against UIW and go on to play Saturday versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1:30 in the University Center. All games and live stats can be accessed at www.LionSports.net.
