HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team returns home for a pair of Southland Conference games this weekend in the University Center.
The Lady Lions (8-7, 3-2 SLC) will play Northwestern State (7-8, 3-2 SLC) Thursday night at 5 p.m. and Texas A&M-Commerce (7-10, 5-5 SLC) Saturday at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be accessed on

The first 300 Southeastern students attending Thursday's twin bill will receive a free long-sleeved t-shirt courtesy of SLU Athletics.
Daija Harvey (Thursday) and
Hailey Giaratano (Saturday) are this week's Spotlight Players of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a training card featuring that game's Spotlight Player of the Game courtesy of PRIDE.
Southeastern went 1-1 this past weekend in Texas. The Lady Lions opened the road trip with a 53-46 victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. They then fell to UIW, 55-49, Saturday.
In the loss,
Chrissy Brown was able to get her fourth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds and 10 points against UIW.
Southeastern is now 3-2 in Southland Conference play.
Alexius Horne leads the team with 12.7 points per game. Giaratano joins her in double figures with 11.4 points per game. Brown paces SLU with 6.8 total rebounds per game, while freshman Jen Pierre tops the team with 2.9 assists per contest.
Northwestern State comes to Hammond on a three-game win streak with wins against McNeese and Nicholls, playing the Lady Colonels twice in the same weekend.
Shelby Rayner leads the Lady Demons with 9.7 points per game and has 145 points on the season and averages 5.2 three pointers in a game. Alecia White leads with 5.2 total rebounds per game and 81 rebounds so far this season. Rayner also leads with 2.7 assists per game.
Saturday's game will be the first time that Southeastern and Texas A&M-Commerce will meet as members of the Southland Conference. TAMU-C has the reigning Southland Conference player of the week in DesiRay Kernal.
Kernal averaged 17 points per game and eight rebounds in the two Lion wins last week. She totaled 18 points and eight rebounds in the win at Houston Christian, while scoring 16 and eight rebounds at home against Lamar. She is fourth in the conference in rebounding, eighth in field goal percentage, and sixth in steals.
SLU will face New Orleans (2-12, 1-4 SLC) Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. in the University Center before heading to take on the Lady Privateers Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. in New Orleans. The games will be streamed on ESPN+.
