SLU Volleyball Heads to New Orleans Thursday, Hosts Nicholls Saturday

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team heads into Hall of Fame weekend looking to extend its two-match win streak and keep the momentum going in the final two matches of the three-match week this week.

The Lady Lions (13-3, 2-1 SLC) are coming off of a thrilling four-set win over McNeese State on Tuesday; 26-28, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18. Three Lady Lions recorded double-doubles in the win, led by Kailin Newsome's 18 kill, ten dig performance.

On Thursday, the Lady Lions will make the hour drive down I-55 to I-10 into New Orleans to take on the University of New Orleans Privateers. The Privateers are coming off their own thrilling victory, coming back from down 2-0 in the match to Nicholls State to knock off the Colonels in five sets; 18-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-13.

Molly Kehoe leads UNO's offensive attack, averaging 2.95 kills per set, while Sophia Ewalefo averages 2.76 kills per set. As a team, the Privateers (8-7, 2-1 SLC) swing at a .157 attack percentage while holding opponents to a .185 attack percentage.

Opening serve of Thursday's match is set for 6:30 P.M. at the UNO Human Performance Center.

It'll be an early day Saturday at the University Center as the Lady Lions finish the week's action by hosting Nicholls State in an 11:00 A.M. match to start the Hall of Fame Day festivities on the SLU campus.

The Colonels (4-11, 1-2 SLC) head into Thursday's action, where they host McNeese State, trying to reverse a recent trend having lost two straight, including the aforementioned loss to the Privateers on Tuesday, and ten of their last 11 matches overall with the only win during that stretch being a conference-opening, straight sets win at Incarnate Word.

Devon Bright leads the Colonels with 2.49 kills per set while Katie Jones averages 2.19 kills per set, representing the only two Nicholls players averaging more than two kills per set. The team averages a .171 attack percentage while allowing a .210 attack percentage to their opponents.
