HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will be hosting Southland Conference opponents Nicholls and Northwestern State this weekend at Strawberry Stadium.
The Lady Lions are coming off of their first conference win against McNeese 2-1 last week with
Nicole O'Neill having the game winning goal.
Southeastern is 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference with strong starters taking the field in
Emma Jones and
Olivia Griffin. Jones was Southeastern's first Southland Defensive Player of the week after a 3-0 shutout win against Jackson State. Griffin also received Southland honors as Goalkeeper of the Week the same week, she has 12 saves on the season.
The first conference opponent of the week, Nicholls (2-5-1, 0-1), is coming off of a win against Jackson State after losing two in a row against UC Irvine and Hawaii. They are coached by second year head coach Robert Podeyn. Jemma Catherwood, a freshman out of New Zealand, scored the winning goal for Nicholls in the 82
nd minute of the match against Jackson State. The match against Nicholls will begin at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium, Friday Sept. 16
th. It will be streamed on ESPN+
The Lady Lions will take on 2021 Southland Conference champions, NSU (4-1-1, 1-0) Sunday at 1 p.m. at home. Northwestern State is coming off of a three-match win streak, the most recent win being against UIW, 1-0. Limiting UIW to five shots with none of them being on goal, Olivia Draguicevich's goal won the match for the Lady Demons. They will play Lamar Friday night at 7 p.m. at home. Sunday's match will also be on ESPN+.
After this week's action, Southeastern will head to Houston Baptist to take on the Huskies Friday Sept. 23
rd at 7 p.m.
