HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team was picked third in the 2022 Southland Conference Preseason Poll presented by Ready released by the league office Thursday.
 
The Lady Lions return 12 letter winners from last season's roster and add eight talented newcomers in to the mix. Southeastern head coach Jeremy White has high hopes for his SLU roster.
 
"The Southland Conference race should be pretty competitive and wide-open," White commented. "For us to be consistently picked to finish in the top three or four in the conference says a lot for what we've been able to build with our program."
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi occupied the top spot in the preseason poll. The Islanders were followed by HBU, SLU, McNeese, UIW, Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Nicholls, New Orleans and Lamar.
 
Southeastern will host the intersquad Green and Gold scrimmage Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center, as well as a 3 p.m. exhibition versus ULM Saturday. The season officially opens Aug. 26 with SLU facing Tulane (1 p.m.) and Prairie View (4 p.m.) on the opening day of the Katrinka Crawford Invitational in Beaumont, Texas.
 
Hammond will also serve as the host for the 2022 Southland Conference Tournament, set for Nov. 17-20.
