Southeastern Falls in Exhibition at Mississippi State

22 different Lady Lions see action in final SLU tuneup before regular season opener

STARKVILLE, Miss.  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Mississippi State in exhibition Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.

After a tightly-contest opening half, the host Bulldogs posted three goals after half time to secure the shutout victory.

Olivia Griffin (seven) and Sophie Wendt (four) shared time in the net and combined for 11 saves. Newcomer Nicole O'Neill attempted the lone shot for Southeastern, which saw 22 players see action in the final tune-up before the regular season opens later this week.

MSU broke a scoreless tie in the 30th minute. Hannah Telleysh put in a shot into the left side of the net. Griffin and company held strong for the remainder of the half and went into the break trailing, 1-0.

After having her penalty kick turned away, Gwen Mummert put in a shot in the 54th minute to double the MSU lead early in the second half.

A goal by Olivia Simpson just over 15 minutes into the second half added to the tally, then Telleysh closed out the scoring with less than five minutes remaining in the match to provide the final 4-0 margin.

Southeastern will officially open the 2022 season with a 6 p.m. contest Thursday at Ole Miss.
