HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University head football coach Frank Scelfo, senior wide receiver CJ Turner and senior defensive back Donniel Ward-Magee will represent the Lions at the 2022 Southland Conference Football Media Day Wednesday at the L'Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles.
 
The event will be televised on ESPN+ and via watchespn.com and the ESPN app. SLC Football Media Day will be televised from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (Central). Southeastern's contingent is scheduled to be featured on the ESPN+ broadcast at noon.
 
Scelfo is entering his fifth season at the helm of the Southeastern program. Under his direction, the Lions have advanced to the NCAA FCS playoffs in two of the past three seasons. The 2019 Southland Conference Coach of the Year and has overseen one of six programs to be ranked in the top 25 in each of the past three seasons. Entering the fall, Scelfo's SLU squad has been ranked 26 weeks consecutively - the fifth-longest current streak in the nation.
 
Both Turner and Ward-Magee have been key members of the Southeastern attack throughout Scelfo's tenure. Ward-Magee has earned All-Southland honors in each of the past two seasons. The New Orleans, Louisiana product was second on the team with 52 tackles last fall from his safety position.
 
Turner is returning after an injury-shortened season that saw him catch 27 passes for 464 yards and five touchdowns in six games. A first team All-Southland and All-Louisiana choice in 2020, the LaPlace, Louisiana native enters his final campaign in Hammond ranked among program's career leaders in receiving yards (2,383, 3^rd), receptions (185, 3^rd), receiving touchdowns (19, 4^th) and 100-yard receiving games (9, 2^nd).
 
The Lions report back to the campus on Aug. 2 with the team's first practice set for Aug. 3. Southeastern will open the 2022 season with a 6 p.m. game Sept. 3 at UL Lafayette. The five-game home schedule begins with a 6 p.m. Sept. 17 contest versus Central Connecticut State.
