HAMMOND, La. – The United States Marines and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Monday that both the Southeastern Louisiana University beach and indoor volleyball teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, given annually to volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
 
Southeastern's beach volleyball squad picks up the award for the second time in as many seasons, posting a 3.61 combined GPA for the 2021-22 academic year. Five student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA, including Hannah Barosh, Hannah Brewer, Michelle Mirarchi, Meagan Scuderi and Eryn Wilks. A sixth student-athlete, Mackenzie McLaughlin earned a 4.0 in the spring after joining the program during the semester break.
 
The Lady Lion indoor squad claimed the award for the fourth consecutive year, and the sixth time overall in program history, posting a 3.39 GPA for the 2021-22 academic year. Two student-athletes, Brewer and Cicily Hidalgo, earned 4.0 GPAs.
 
"Academic achievement does not happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority."
