HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to Southland Conference play this weekend in Natchitoches, Louisiana with a three-game series against Northwestern State at Brown-Stroud Field.
Southeastern (17-24, 7-8 SLC) and the Demons (20-20, 8-7 SLC) will square off at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The Lions sit one game back of Northwestern State in the Southland standings and are two games behind the conference leaders, McNeese and Nicholls.
Fans in the Hammond area can listen to the game broadcast on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network – KSLU 90.9 FM – in addition to online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience, Mixlr and MyTuner Radio apps. Will Kinzeler (3-1, 3.45), a sophomore right-hander from Covington, Louisiana, draws the Lions' starting assignment in the series opener opposite Northwestern State senior left-hander Cal Carver (3-4, 4.45). Kinzeler ranks second in the conference in innings pitched (62.2) while ranking third in ERA and seventh in strikeouts (48). Carver ranks second in the Southland with 57 strikeouts.
Freshman left-hander
Adam Guth (1-1, 5.56) takes the ball Saturday for SLU against Demon junior right-hander Jonathan Harmon (5-4, 2.98). Harmon leads the Southland in innings pitched (63.1) while ranking second in both wins and ERA.
The Lions have not announced a starting pitcher for the series finale. Northwestern State is slated to go with sophomore right-hander Drayton Brown (4-4, 3.81). Brown ranks second in the Southland in opponent batting average (.204), fifth in ERA and sixth in both innings pitched (54.1) and strikeouts (49).

Tyler Finke (.258) and
Tristan Welch (.255) pace Southeastern at the plate. Faulkner leads the squad with 21 extra-base hits, including a Southland-leading 11 home runs to go along with 38 RBIs. The RBI total ranks fourth in the conference.
Tyler Finke is tops on the team with 16 stolen bases, one shy of the conference leader.
Rhett Rosevear (25) leads the nation in HBPs and the Lions (86) rank second as a team.
Northwestern State has won three of their last four games, taking the first two games of a conference series this past weekend at home against Houston Baptist and then rallying for a win Tuesday at Grambling.
Gray Rowlett (.286), Duante Stuart (.283), Larson Fontenot (.279) and Gabe Colaianni (.277) are the Demons' top hitters. Jeffrey Elkins leads the team with 14 extra-base hits, including eight home runs. Bo Willis' 30 RBIs are tops on the squad. Larson Fontenot is responsible for a team-high 11 stolen bases.

Southeastern returns home for the final time during the 2022 regular season, May 6-8, hosting Houston Baptist in a three-game conference series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The series finale is a Cane's Challenge contest and will also include the annual Senior Day ceremony prior to the game.
