HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team hosts South Alabama at 6 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, one of five home games remaining on the Lions' 2022 regular-season schedule.
Winners in eight of its last 10 games, Southeastern (16-20) faces South Alabama (22-12) for the only time this season. An earlier matchup in Mobile, Alabama was rained out and ultimately canceled due to the lack of a remaining common open date.
Tuesday's game is a Cane's Challenge contest. When the Lions score four or more runs, fans can take their ticket or student coupon to any participating Raising Cane's location for a buy-one get-one free offer on any combo.
Fans in the Hammond area can listen to the game broadcast on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network – KSLU 90.9 FM – in addition to online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience, Mixlr and MyTuner Radio apps. The MyTuner app is compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late model automobiles. Fans should search for SLU Athletics (Mixlr) or Southeastern Sports Radio Network (MyTuner).
The game will also air on ESPN+.
Southeastern is coming off a series sweep of conference-foe New Orleans, claiming the Pontchartrain Bowl for the fifth time in trophy history.
Shea Thomas (.298),
Preston Faulkner (.289) and
Champ Artigues (.270) pace Southeastern at the plate. Faulkner leads the squad with 21 extra-base hits, including a Southland-leading 11 home runs to go along with 38 RBIs. The RBI total ranks second in the conference.
Tyler Finke is tops on the team with 12 stolen bases.
Rhett Rosevear is the national leader in HBPs (23) while SLU ranks third nationally as a team (79).
The Jaguars split four games this past week, dropping a non-conference game, 7-4, Tuesday to Alabama State in Montgomery, Alabama. South Alabama then won two of three in a Sun Belt Conference series at Troy.
Miles Simington (.383), Hunter Stokes (.324), Santi Montiel (.324) and Will Turner (.304) are the Jaguars' top hitters. Montiel leads the team in extra-base hits with 18, including a team-high seven home runs. Simington owns a team-best 36 RBIs while Turner's nine stolen bases are tops on the team.
