Lions Drop Rematch with Louisiana Tech, Split Season Series

RUSTON, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 13-1, to Louisiana Tech in non-conference action Wednesday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park, splitting the season series at a game apiece.

The contest was a rematch following last week's, 4-3, Southeastern (5-8) win over the Bulldogs (8-5) in Hammond, Louisiana.

A pair of first-inning errors Wednesday led to five runs for Tech, all unearned, off starting pitcher Lance Lauve.

SLU responded with a run in the second off Tech starter Cade Gibson. Preston Faulkner and Christian Garcia hit back-to-back doubles opening up the inning. Faulkner later scored on Connor Manola's one-out sacrifice fly to center field.

The Bulldogs bounced back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning before the game tightened up.

Lion southpaw Adam Guth logged a career-high 3.2 innings in relief of Lauve, allowing just one run, and the Tech bullpen did not allow a hit after the third inning. SLU also got scoreless outings from Daniel Dugas and Alex Potter. Tech added six runs in the eighth to wrap up the scoring.

Bulldog reliever Anthony Giannette (1-0) earned the win, working two scoreless innings. Lauve (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs – one earned – in 1.1 innings pitched.
