SPRING, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team won the Colin Montgomerie Invitational while SLU's Michael Landry claimed the individual championship Tuesday at Augusta Pine Golf Club in Spring, Texas.
 
The Lions blew away the field as they shot +4 for the tournament, 13 shots ahead of second place Gonzaga (+17), as all five players for Southeastern placed in the top 25.
 
Landry, a sophomore, was terrific as he shot -6 (210) for the tournament turning in a 70 (-2) in all three rounds. In Tuesday's final round, he finished with four birdies and two bogeys to earn the individual title by three shots over Gonzaga's Charlie Magruder (-3). Landry totaled 13 birdies and just seven bogeys for the 54-hole tournament on his way to the championship in just his second tournament with SLU.
 
"He was so consistent the entire tournament," said SLU head golf coach Jake Narro. "When you have a guy that's playing that well on the team it helps the entire team puts wind in their sales. But just a brilliant performance by Michael for all 54 holes."
 
Cameron Mobley had a great showing as well as he took home fifth place. The Brandon, Mississippi native shot even for the tournament with an opening round 72, second round 74 and final round 72.
 
SLU's Charlie Forster placed 14^th turning in at +7 while Logan Kuehn was tied for 20^th at +9. Grayson Glorioso wasn't far behind as he finished tied for 24^th (+10).
 
Southeastern shot -5 for the final round led by Forster (-3) while Mobley and Landry both shot -2 Tuesday. Kuehn finished the closing 18 holes shooting 74 (+2).
 
"Everybody had to contribute for us to win," said Narro. "But to win by that much, everybody had to play really well. So even if somebody had a bad round, then they had two good ones. I mean when you shoot five under par as team in the final round, that says it all."
Next up, Southeastern will look to continue its hot start to the spring when it competes in the Big Texan Invitational in Kerrville, Texas hosted by UT Rio Grande Valley Monday, March 21.
