HAMMOND, La. –  As the third week of spring practice comes to a close, the Southeastern Louisiana University football team continues to improve.
 
Following Thursday's practice, SLU head coach Frank Scelfo lauded his team's progress in several areas.
 
"We're eight practices in and we've definitely seen improvement on both sides of the ball," Scelfo said. "Our strengths this spring has been our ability to be efficient running the football and being physical at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball."
 
Southeastern is working in plenty of new faces into the mix on both offense and defense. Scelfo has been pleased with how many of his newcomers have picked up SLU's schemes, but does not credit that solely to the newest Lions' ability to adapt.
 
"We have developed a great culture within our program and that helps speed up the process of getting our new guys up to speed," Scelfo commented. "We have veteran guys in place who do things the right way that can help communicate our expectations to the new guys in the locker room."
 
The following week of spring practices will see SLU take the field Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The final week of spring practice includes 3:30 p.m. practices Monday, April 4 and Thursday, April 7, before culminating with the annual Spring Game on April 9 at 10:30 a.m.
 
Southeastern will open the 2022 season on Sept. 3 at UL Lafayette.
