HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer program will begin a national search for a new head coach immediately, SLU Director of Athletics
Jay Artigues announced Thursday.
Previous Lady Lion head coach Chris McBride has resigned to take the head coaching position at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
McBride completed his fifth season with SLU this past fall. The 2020 Southland Conference and Louisiana Coach of the Year, McBride led Southeastern to a Southland Conference Tournament championship and the fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.
"Coach McBride did an unbelievable job with our soccer program," Artigues commented. "He brought us a conference championship and more importantly, he did it the right way. Our mission statement lays out the expectations of excellence in the classroom, in the community and in competition and under Coach McBride's direction, our soccer program thrived in all three areas. We thank him for the job he's done here and wish him and his family nothing but the best."
McBride has left the program in a place where it can consistently compete for Southland Conference championships on an annual basis.
"We're looking for our new coach to continue to cultivate the championship culture that Coach McBride has established," Artigues said. "Our search for our new head coach will be swift, but thorough."
