HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will look to retake sole possession of the Southland Conference lead when it travels to Texas for a pair of league contests this week.
SLU (12-7, 8-1 Southland) opens the week's trip with a showdown with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (15-7, 7-1 Southland) at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Lions close their trip Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest at UIW (7-13, 3-6 Southland).
Thursday's game will be televised on ESPN+, while Saturday's game will be streamed on UIWCardinals.com. Both games can be heard live online at

Southeastern will be looking to bounce back from its first conference loss of the season last Saturday. SLU shot just 25.0 percent (14-for-56) from the field and had its eight-game win streak snapped with a 51-40 home loss to HBU.
The Lady Lions enter this week's action averaging 63.2 points per game and shooting a league-best 42.3 percent from the field.
Caitlyn Williams leads the team with 8.9 points per game, followed by
Morgan Carrier (8.1 ppg),
Hailey Giaratano (7.9 ppg),
Morgan Davis (7.7 ppg) and
Breonca Ducksworth (7.1 ppg).
SLU also tops the conference with a 0.90 assist-to-turnover ratio. Giaratano (3.3 apg, 2
nd),
Cierria Cunningham (2.9 apg, 4
th) and Ducksworth (2.8 apg, 5
th) occupy three of the top five spots on the conference's assist leaderboard, as Giaratano boasts a league-best 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Carrier paces Southeastern with 25 made three-point field goals – good for sixth in the Southland. The New Iberia, Louisiana native's 160 three-point field goals made and 460 three-point field goals attempted are both good for third on the program's career list.
The Lady Lions enter the week's action tied atop the Southland Conference with a plus-5.8 rebounding margin. Williams is currently second in the league with 8.3 rebounds per game. The Brusly, Louisiana native is sixth in school history with 799 career rebounds.
On the defensive side, Southeastern is holding opponents to 54.3 points per game heading into this week's competition. Ducksworth is seventh in the Southland with 1.9 steals per game, while Giaratano (13, 8

Natalie Kelly (10, 11
th) and Williams (9, 14
th) rank among the league leaders in blocked shots. Williams is third in school history with 90 blocks in her Lady Lion career.
Southeastern will open the trip against an Islander team that has kept pace with SLU in the Southland standings, winning four straight since suffering its only league loss back on Jan. 27 in Hammond. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi bounced back from the Lady Lions' 48-43 victory with road wins over Northwestern State and Nicholls, while also sweeping a pair from New Orleans.
Makinna Serratta leads the Islanders with 13.5 points per game, while teammate Alecia Westbrook (12.8 ppg, 10.7 rpg) is the only Southland Conference player averaging a double-double in 2021-22. Violeta Verano leads the Southland with 4.6 assists per outing, while Nabaweeyah McGill has a team-high 29 blocked shots – good for second in the league.
Southeastern is 9-11 all-time versus the Islanders. In the first meeting, Williams led SLU with nine points and tied a career high with 17 rebounds. Verano scored a game-high 15 points to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
UIW, which hosts Northwestern State Thursday, has split its four games since suffering a 76-49 loss to Southeastern on Jan. 29. The Cardinals split a pair with Nicholls and UNO.
UIW boasts the league's top scorer in Jaaucklyn Moore. Moore is averaging 17.7 points per game to sit atop the league's scoring leaderboard by a margin of over two points.
UIW holds a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series with Southeastern. SLU has won the last two meetings, including the win in Hammond last month. In that victory, Carrier (16 points), Williams (16) and
Taylor Bell (14) all reached double figures, while Giaratano paced the Lady Lions with six assists and five steals.
Following this week's action, Southeastern will return home to host New Orleans at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the University Center. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard online at
