SLU & SU Both Enter Wednesday's Game Looking to End Skids

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team looks to end a two-game losing streak in the final game before Christmas Wednesday night as the Lions welcome in the Southern Jaguars to town as nonconference play winds down.

After not scoring a double-double in nearly two full calendar years, Nick Caldwell has attained those numbers twice in the last three games. In Southeastern's last game, a 77-71 loss Saturday against Troy, Caldwell came off the bench and scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds just a week and a half after scoring 23 and grabbing 11 against Belhaven. Brody Rowbury also had a big day in the loss to the Trojans, tying his career high with 16 points scored as he hit seven of the ten shots he took.

Heading into Wednesday's game, Christian Agnew has taken over as the top scorer for the Lions on the season, averaging 12.1 points per game on the year on 36.1% shooting. His 20 made three-pointers on the season are just one off of the team lead, currently held by Matthew Strange's 21. Boogie Anderson averages 11.6 points per game and continues to shoot greater than 50% on the season overall while leading the team in assists at just over four per game and steals with just about two per game.

Southern enters Wednesday's contest on a losing skid of their own, having dropped three straight and four out of their last five games. In their last contest, a 92-66 defeat at Alabama-Birmingham, Terrell Williams, Jr. led the Jaguars with 12 points. Bryson Etienne and Kris Gardner each finished with 10 points in the loss to the Blazers as Southern shot 36.9% from the field and just 27.3% from above the three-point arc.

Etienne leads all scorers for the Jaguars on the season, averaging 11.9 points on 39% shooting. Brion Whitley averages 10.8 points per game and is Southern's top three-point threat, having hit a team-high 26 shots from distance on the season.

Wednesday's game between the Lions (5-7) and Jaguars (4-8) is set for a 7:00 P.M. tip-off in the University Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
