So. G Mehdi Pissis has a team-best 11 made 3-point field goals so far this season
HAMMOND, La. – Finally home from a five-game road trip, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to Hammond looking for the best start to a season since the 2017-18 season as the Lions welcome NAIA side William Carey to the University Center to kick off a day full of action on the SLU campus on Saturday.
The Lions picked up two big wins over the recent five-game trip. Out west, Southeastern defeated a Wyoming squad on its home floor that was in the NCAA Tournament a season ago. Out east at the Appalachian State Multi-Team Event, SLU roared back from a 20-point deficit to Campbell with less than five minutes remaining in the contest as a
Boogie Anderson floater with 0.3 left in the game against the Fighting Camels gave the Lions the largest margin ever overcome with less than five minutes left in a game in NCAA history.
Anderson leads Southeastern, averaging 12.3 points per game. While Anderson is the lone player averaging double-digits through six games this season, nine Lions average at least five points per game, showing SLU continues to rely on a balanced scoring attack.
Sami Pissis averages 9.7 points with
Roscoe Eastmond averaging 9.3 points per contest.
Christian Agnew and
Roger McFarlane are both in the eight point per game range, averaging 8.6 and 8.2 points, respectively. McFarlane is SLU's leading rebounder as well, averaging 8.8 boards per game.
Brody Rowbury averages seven points per game on the young season.
Southeastern shoots 44% from the field while holding opponents to 43.2% from the field. The Lions average 74.5 points per game while allowing 74.7 points per game to their opponents through six games.
William Carey (1-4) enters Saturday's contest having dropped two straight, both coming on the opening weekend of conference play in the NAIA's Southern States Athletic Conference. The Crusaders are led by Earl Smith, who averages 14.4 points per game on 47.8% shooting and 48.1% from above the three-point arc. Kolby Moore averages 13.4 points per game on 42.4% shooting. Emile Kazeneza averages 9.4 points per game and hits 50% of his shots.
The Crusaders averaged 69.4 points per game as a team on 40.7% shooting while allowing 67.8 points per game on 42.4% shooting. This game will be an exhibition for William Carey.
Tip off between the Lions and Crusaders is set for 12:00 P.M. at the University Center and admission will be free to the game. There won't be a live video stream available, but a radio stream will be available through the SLU athletics website. Immediately after the game ends, the SLU basketball team will sign autographs for everyone in attendance. Fans are encouraged to stick around and get autographs of their favorite Lions men's basketball players before heading over the Strawberry Stadium for the football playoff game later that evening.
