SLU Opens Season Nov. 7th vs. Loyola New Orleans

FRISCO, Texas – With the start of the 2022-23 basketball season right around the corner, the Southland Conference announced its preseason poll on Tuesday, which saw the Southeastern University men's basketball team picked to finish fourth in the standings by the conference coaches.

The Lions are coming off a season where they finished 10-4 in the Southland and tied for second in the standings, earning the two-seed in the Southland Conference Championship Tournament. SLU advanced all the way to the Championship Game and their play earned them a spot in The Basketball Classic.

This season, Southeastern welcomes seven newcomers with six members of last year's squad returning. Roscoe Eastmond is the lone starter from 2021-22 returning and he will be joined by fellow returners Roger McFarlane, Matthew Strange, and Nick Caldwell as well as some highly-touted recruits in Boogie Anderson, Christian Agnew, and Brody Rowbury.

SLU picked up 105 total points in the poll, good for fourth in the poll. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was the favorite, followed by Nicholls and New Orleans before the Lions found their slot.

"We don't get too caught up in preseason rankings," said Southeastern Head Men's Basketball Coach David Kiefer, "but you can see the teams with a lot of returners sit at the top. We have a lot of new faces this year, but I believe the combination of returners and added new guys gives us a very deep, talented roster this season. We have a long way to go before conference play and we just need to keep working to be better than the previous day."

The 2022-23 basketball season for SLU starts on Nov. 7th at home against the defending NAIA National Champions in Loyola-New Orleans. Tip-off of the game against the Wolf Pack is set for 7:30 P.M. in the University Center.
