FRISCO, Texas –Due to her play while the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team picked up two big home victories over teams at the top of the Southland Conference standings this past weekend, Kailin Newsome earned her third Conference Offensive Player of the Week award on the season, the conference office announced on Monday.
 
Newsome, a junior outside hitter from Houston, Texas, had 29 kills in just seven sets played, an average of 4.1 kills per set, as the Lady Lions took down Texas A&M-Corpus Christi & conference-leader Houston Christian on the week. In the match against HCU, she picked up her tenth double-double of the season with 11 kills and ten digs while coming up one dig shy of doing so in both matched as she collected 18 kills and nine digs against the Islanders.
 
In the kills per set standings, Newsome currently leads the Southland by averaging 3.93 kills. This is Newsome's third SLC Offensive Player of the Week award, making her the first player in the conference to win a weekly award three times this season. She was also named Offensive Player of the Week in the SLC on September 5^th and 19^th.
 
Newsome and the Lady Lions (17-6, 7-4 SLC) look to build off the momentum from this past weekend's big wins and continue to rule at home in a potentially key battle for postseason positioning on Thursday night as New Orleans comes to Hammond. First serve of Thursday's match against the Privateers (13-10, 7-4 SLC) is set for 6:30 P.M. in the University Center.
