HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will open the second half of its 2022 schedule with a 1 p.m. contest at Jacksonville State Saturday at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium.
 
Saturday's game between the Lions (3-3, 1-1 SLC) and the host Gamecocks (6-1, 2-0 ASUN/WAC) will be the nonconference finale for SLU and will be televised on ESPN+. The game, which is the first of three straight road contest for Southeastern, can also be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
 
Prior to the break, SLU had a three-game winning streak snapped, as Texas A&M-Commerce earned a 31-28 victory in Hammond in the final game of a four-game Southeastern home stand.
 
Eli Sawyer (66-for-110, 927 yards, 5 TD, 0 INT) and Cephus Johnson III (49-for-79, 533 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT) have split time under center for a Lion offense that is averaging 33.8 points and 409.5 yards per contest.
 
Gage Larvadain (23 catches, 308 yards, 1 TD) and CJ Turner (17-279-3 TD) are the top targets for SLU in the passing game. Carlos Washington Jr. leads the Southeastern rushing attack with 373 yards and eight touchdowns.
 
Southeastern is yielding 25.3 points and 426.7 yards per contest. Donte' Daniels leads the Lions with 41 tackles, followed by Herman Christophe (38), Anthony Britton Jr. (35), Donniel Ward-Magee (31) and Jack Henderson (30).
 
Christophe has a team-high two interceptions, while Daniels leads the team with 3.5 tackles for loss. Darrius Harry paces the squad with two sacks.
 
Punter Austin Dunlap (44.3 yards per punt) and punt returner Darius Lewis (13.7 yards per return) are among the FCS and SLC leaders. Riley Callaghan is a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 13-for-13 on PAT's since taking over placekicking duties.
 
The Gamecocks have won their last three games heading into Saturday's contest. Jacksonville State, which is transitioning to FBS as a future member of Conference USA, is not eligible for the FCS playoffs, but is facing an ASUN-WAC schedule.
 
Last Saturday, JSU jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back on the way to a 47-31 victory over North Alabama. Anwar Lewis (168 yards, 2 TD) led a Gamecock rushing attack that finished with 350 yards in Saturday's win.
 
Jacksonville State is averaging 37.4 points and 436.7 yards per game through seven games. Zion Webb (1,107 passing yards, 7 TD, 5 INT; 302 rushing yards, 10 TD) leads the JSU offense. Lewis has a team-high 624 rushing yards, while Sterling Galiban (19 catches, 348 yards, 3 TD) and Sean Brown (14-255-1 TD) are the top targets in the passing game.
 
Opponents are averaging 24.4 points and 362.3 yards per game versus the Gamecocks. Stevonte Tullis leads Jacksonville State with 43 tackles and three fumble recoveries. Chris Hardie enters Saturday with a team-high 7.5 tackles for loss, while five players have interceptions.
 
Alec Karajic is 10-for-11 on field goals and 21-for-21 on PAT to highlight the Jacksonville State special teams.
 
Following this week's action, Southeastern will continue its road swing with a 7 p.m. contest next Saturday, Oct. 29 at McNeese. The Lions-Cowboys matchup will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
