Lady Lions Sweep Nicholls, Move to 6-0 at Home

Vidrine's Eight Kills, Five Aces, Ten Digs Guides Shorthanded SLU in Win

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team kept its unbeaten record at home intact, picking up their sixth win in six home matches in 2022, as the Lady Lions swept the Nicholls State Colonels 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-22) Saturday afternoon on Alumni Day at the university Center.

The biggest run of the match came to close in the second set. After a service ace pulled the Colonels to within 16-15, an Addie Vidrine kill started a 9-1 Lady Lion push to close out the set, including the final seven points off of kills by Crispin Adams, Kailin Newsome, and Alexis Logarbo, as well as an ace by Vidrine.

Looking to close out the match in a close third set, an Addie Vidrine kill got the serve back for the Lady Lions while putting SLU on set point at 24-22. Grace Toler came in and dropped an ace down in front of a Colonels player to finish off the sweep.

Down a few of the team's big weapons, Kailin Newsome led the Lady Lion attack with nine kills on 28 attacks. Addie Vidrine finished with eight kills while both Crispin Adams and Ryley Boyne finished with seven kills apiece. Vidrine had five of SLU's nine service aces in the match and added ten digs. Gracie Duplechein finished with 21 assists while Peyton Stokley had 18. Ansley Tullis had a team-high 11 digs. The Lady Lions hit for a .261 attack percentage while Nicholls hit for .230 as a team in the match.

The Lady Lions (14-4, 4-2 SLC) look to keep the undefeated run at home going, trying to move to 7-0, on Thursday night as Lamar comes to Hammond for SLU's sole match of the week. Opening serve of Thursday's match against the Cardinals (6-10, 0-5 SLC) is set for 6:30 P.M. at the University Center.
