Lady Lions Travel to Face LSU in Exhibition Match Wednesday Night

SLU Tunes Up for Regular Season

2021 Women's Soccer Exhibition Match
SLU Lady Lions (8-3-4 in 2020) at LSU Lady Tigers (8-8-3 in 2020)
Wed., Aug. 11, 2021 | 6 p.m. CT | Baton Rouge, La. | LSU Soccer Stadium

BATON ROUGE, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament Champion Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will take on in-state SEC foe LSU Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in an exhibition match in a tune up before next week's season opener.

The Lady Lions (8-3-4 in 2020), under reigning Southland Conference and LSWA Coach of the Year Chris McBride, will play a regular formatted match of two 45-minute halves against the Lady Tigers (8-8-3 in 2020).

SLU will look to build on the confidence received from preseason recognition. The Lady Lions were announced as the Southland preseason favorites Tuesday morning while having eight student-athletes named to the preseason All-Southland Team Monday afternoon. Midfielder Megan Gordon, defenders Emma Jones and Dalton Fish and forwards Mya Guillory and Makenzie Maher were all named to the first team. Goalkeeper Nadine Maher, forward Hailie Yoder and defender Haylli Roe received second team recognition.

Wednesday's matchup is a rare meeting between Southeastern and LSU as the two teams have only met six times during regular season play. The Lady Tigers hold a 5-1 advantage all-time with SLU's lone win coming in 1999, 3-1, in Baton Rouge.

But for the Lady Lions, Wednesday's exhibition with LSU is not only about the outcome on the scoreboard.

"The main thing is just to get some playing time," said McBride. "Some of our players managed to play summer league this year while others didn't. The thing for us now is that we had our first weekend to practice and we retouched on some fundamentals of what we want to do. And we hope now that we just go and focus on those two or three points in the game and get that sorted. The rest of it, we can get figured out as the season goes. But ultimately, this first game we want to go out and get everyone some playing time and get some minutes under their belt and get back to Division I speed of play. And there's no better opponent than LSU with their speed and physicality to help prepare of us for the season."

Admission to Wednesday's contest is free with more information available at LSUSports.Net/GeauxFree/.

Following Wednesday's matchup with LSU, the Lady Lions will have eight days to prepare for their season opener Thursday, Aug. 19 against Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
