HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana right-hander
Brennan Stuprich added to his stable of postseason honors Monday, earning a spot on D1Baseball's Freshman All-America squad.
A first-team honoree, Stuprich owns the lowest ERA (2.31) of any starting pitcher selected to the two teams. It also marks the second Freshman All-America honor for the Southland Conference's regular-season ERA leader, having previously been selected by Collegiate Baseball.
The native of Kenner, Louisiana ranked fifth in the Southland this season in innings pitched (81.2), seventh in wins (6), 10th in opponent batting average (.224) and 13th in strikeouts (67). He wrapped up the season with a 2.31 ERA.
Along the way, the Brother Martin (H.S.) grad picked up Southland pitcher of the week honors (April 12) after logging eight shutout innings over regular-season champ Abilene Christian and was voted the Louisiana Pitcher of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (April 26) after he tossed a shutout on the road against conference-leading New Orleans.
Stuprich and the Lions faced a handful of players also selected by D1Baseball, including catcher Daniel Susac (Arizona), outfielder Dylan Crews (LSU), designated hitter Jacob Berry (Arizona), catcher Bennett Lee (Tulane) and first baseman Tre' Morgan (LSU).
