HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana closes out the road portion of its 2021 regular-season schedule this weekend with a four-game Southland Conference series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Rainy weather expected at the end of the weekend has led to an alteration of the series schedule. Action now kicks off with a 3 p.m. doubleheader Friday. Single games follow at 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday to close out the series. All four games can be heard in the Hammond area on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network – KSLU 90.9 FM – in addition to online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via both the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.
A video stream – produced by A&M-Corpus Christi – will be available both online as well as through the Southland Conference Digital Network app for smart TVs and mobile devices.
Other options to follow the action this weekend include live statistics or the @LionUpBaseball Twitter account. Links to audio, video and stats are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
With the Southland using a points system (Win = 3 pts; Cancellation = 1 pt; Loss = 0 pts) to determine both the regular-season champion and tournament seeding, the Lions (60 points) essentially find themselves in second place with games at hand on first-place New Orleans (66 points).
The Privateers (22-14 SLC) will wrap up their conference slate this weekend at Lamar. Southeastern (28-17, 20-12 SLC) has a home series with Houston Baptist next week to close out the regular season.
Third-place Abilene Christian (19-11 SLC, 59 pts) and fourth-place Northwestern State (19-13 SLC, 57 pts) also sit within striking distance of first. ACU is at Sam Houston this weekend, returning home next week to host Stephen F. Austin. NSU is at SFA this weekend, returning home next week to host the Islanders (21-27, 17-14 SLC).
Southeastern split a four-game series with Nicholls this past weekend, sweeping Saturday's doubleheader but dropping both the series opener and finale to the Colonels.
Evan Keller (.326),
Tyler Finke (.324) and
Christian Garcia (.316) are the Lions' leading hitters.
Jacob Burke paces the squad in extra-base hits (11 doubles, two triples, six home runs) and ranks 10th nationally with 22 stolen bases.
Preston Faulkner leads the squad in RBIs (38). Eight different players have driven in at least 20 runs this season.

Freshman right-hander

Freshman right-hander
Will Kinzeler (4-3, 3.62) heads to the bump Saturday for Southeastern while the Islanders plan to start sophomore right-hander Hayden Thomas (3-3, 3.33).
A&M-Corpus Christi has not announced a starting pitcher for Sunday's series finale. The Lions will go with senior right-hander
Noah Hughes (1-3, 4.86).
Luke Marbach (.331), Brendan Ryan (.317), Mike Williams (.309) and Itchy Burts (.303) are the Islanders' top hitters. Josh Caraway paces the team in extra-base hits (12 doubles, three triples, five home runs). Marbach is the team's leader in home runs (6) and Williams has driven in team-high 33 runs. Burts (13) and Marbach (11) both have recorded double-digit stolen bases.
A&M-Corpus Christi won the first three games of its conference series at home this past weekend against SFA.
