HAMMOND, La. – After helping Southeastern Louisiana to a 42-12 victory over Lamar, Lion sophomore linebacker Herman Christophe was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week, the LSWA announced on Thursday.
 
Christophe, a native of Plaquemine, Louisiana, is the latest SLU player to receive state honors this spring. Teammates that have been honored in 2020-21 included Ferlando Jordan (Defensive Player of the Week, 3/9; Special Teams Player of the Week, 3/16), Mateo Rengifo (Special Teams Player of the Week, 3/9), Cole Kelley (Offensive Player of the Week, 3/16) and Alexis Ramos (Defensive Player of the Week, 3/16).
 
Christophe led Southeastern with 11 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble in SLU's 42-12 victory over Lamar on Saturday. The 12 points allowed are the fewest of the season thus far for the Lions.
 
In his first season as a starter, Christophe has been one of the top players on the SLU defense. He is third on the team with 33 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and one sack to go with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
